Horseback riding is one of the unpopular activities in Uganda but is Famous in the country’s smallest savannah conservation area in Uganda. It is the only national park where you can do this activity and is safe due to the absence of large mammals like elephants and fierce cats like lions. Lake Mburo national park is in the western part of Uganda along the highway connecting western Uganda to the central region. The park has an open diverse environment that has spotty ecosystems including swamps, rocky outcrops, and forests which are homes to the park’s flora and fauna.

Why Horseback riding in Uganda?
Horseback riding is an amazing way of viewing wildlife in Uganda because it does not disorganize nature like the sound of the motor engine. The silence is at maximum apart from the sound of nature and the hooting sound of hooves from the run of the game. This gives an intimate connection to the wild animals because the activities allow you to get closer without causing chaos. You will always meet a mixture of wildlife including grazing impalas, zebras, African buffaloes, Topi, oribis, olive baboons and Roth child’s giraffes. It is on rare sightings that you will meet the cats like leopards and riding is for everyone including beginners. However begiginners are advised to adjust and only walk. For the experts, there is always space to rant and run around. Horse rides are done on well-distributed routes in the national park.
Around Lake Mburo national park are quite a good number of Lakes and those that are within the park. Prepare to be blown-away during the ride to have spot areas where there will be clear sights of the Lake areas. Horseback riding in Uganda is most recommended to a maximum of 4-5 hours for an expert Rider. The maximum weight the horses can carry is 85 kilograms. Safety measures are put into consideration which is amazing and all rides are with one rider who has experience.

Other activities
Other park activities to do include game drives which we conduct in the early morning in search of morning risers like the grazing Rothschild’s giraffes, waterbucks and impalas. Afternoon drives and evening ones allow enjoying the wildlife and sundowners. It is one of those few places where doing Night game drives is legal in search of Nocturnal species. Nocturnal species include mongoose, pottos and bush babies. Lake Mburo national park is also a good spot for birding safaris. Rubango forest is a key destination in the park to find birds and out of the 350 bird kinds, least you will see 150. Cultural encounters in the nearby Ankole villages and Guided Nature walks.
