Lake Mburo national park boat cruise is a great way to venture through the composition of the park. It consists of many water bodies inside and adjacent to the national park. 20 % of the ecosystem is in water, including the potholes and Marshy swampy areas. Lake Mburo national park forms a 50-kilometer wetland system together with other Lakes. These are linked together by a swamp. L.Mburo NP stands as one of the minor Ugandan conservation areas, and the smallest of Uganda Savannah national parks. It covers an area space of 370 square kilometers along the Highway connecting western Uganda to Kampala city.

Despite its size, Lake Mburo National park presents a lot of things to see and do while in the conservation area. The park has a variety of habitats ranging from savannah vegetation, kopjes, hilly landscapes, shrubs, bushes, forest, swamps and marshy areas. These act as habitats for wildlife animals like lions, Zebras, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, topi, elands, waterbucks, oribi, impala etc. There are about 300 birds that we are sure are in the national park. Mburo is an important birding area, and some of these are endemic to Uganda as a destination.

The boat cruise is a fun-filled activity to do while on a visit to the national park. It gives assurance of viewing the park’s flora and fauna. Getting close to the wild animals near the water area is amazing. Common spots include the African buffaloes, antelopes, Hippotamus, and water birds including the prehistoric Shoebill stock. The shoebill faces a lot of threat and is on the list to be critically scarce among more water birds. Common to sight include the African fish eagle, Pied kingfisher, Ross’s turaco, African fin foot.

The boat cruise in the park takes place on Lake Mburo. Sessions begin in the morning hours and afternoon times, lasting for 2-3 hours while enjoying nature. Pricing of the boat cruise depends on the size of the boat. This is in guidance by the tour operator for rates on the boat cruise. The cruise launches beginning from the Rwonyo jetty.

Other activities

Other park activities include game drives. These are in the morning, afternoon, and night game drives. They enable a view of the wildlife of the park through its well-distributed game tracks. Guided nature walks in the park are one of those safe things to do. This is due to absence of elephants and the rare sight of lions make the whole activity safe. It is the only park in Uganda to do horseback riding in Lake Mburo National Park. This is an initiation of the Mihingo lodge. Horserides get you closer to the animals as they do not be disturbed by the hooting sound of vehicles. The activity can be done for both expert riders and beginners as well.

Lake Mburo national park can be accessible by road. It is approximately 253 square kilometers from Kampala to Rwonyo, at the park headquarters. Charter flights are available by the Domestic flight handlers for experiences from the above. This is done in Kampala Kajansi or Entebbe.
