Rubanga forest is just along the southern corner of Lake Mburo national park. Rubanga forest comprises an amalgamation of species that make it an ideal place to visit. It is a haven for birds and a place to do birding while in the park. Out of Uganda’s 1000 species, 350 are spotted in Lake Mburo national park. Most of the present species live in the forest canopy of the Rubanga forest. The birds whistling through the air is sweet to listen to.

Birds here include the double-touched barbet, Ross’s turaco, red-shouldered cuckoo, Shrike, Harrier hawk, green pigeon, and shoebill stock and others. The unique forest had several tree species to encounter for example grey brown truck, erythrina, fig tree and acacia. These form a beautiful canopy that attracts many forest birds.

Exploring the forest is done on foot led by a professional guide from the Uganda wildlife authority. It begins in the morning, and depending on one’s choice they can decide to spend all day looking for birds. It is possible to meet a few of the park creatures within the forest like primates. Or hyenas getting back from the forest hunt, en route to the forest. You will encounter some of the park species like Zebras, antelopes, Impalas, Topi, Uganda Kobs.
